The Annapolis Area

Known as the "Sailing Capitol" of the United States, Annapolis is one of the most charming cities in the country. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, the home of the United States Naval Academy and a National Historic Landmark. In fact, the entire downtown area has been designated a National Historic District, including the 18 Century Annapolis Dock and Harbor, filled with sailing and fishing vessels and bordered by waterfront taverns, gourmet restaurants, raw bars, specialty shops and the Annapolis Market House.

Annapolis is full of history and has many sightseeing attractions. But Annapolis offers visitors more than just the experience to share the cities history. In addition to sailing, the area offers fishing, crabbing, swimming, tennis and some great golf courses.

Downtown Annapolis has sailboat racing, harbor tours, dockside Summer Garden Theater, and is home of the world's largest Fall In-Water Boat Shows.

For recreation outside of Annapolis, Sandy Point State Park offers boating, swimming, crabbing, surf fishing, or just sunbathing. Across the Bay Bridge lie quaint waterfront villages like St. Michaels, home of the famous Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. South of Annapolis, discover the historic town of St. Mary's City the early colonial capital of Maryland, with exhibits like the floating replica of a 17'th century ship which brought some of the first settlers to Maryland. And of course, Annapolis is less than an hour's drive from Harbor Place in Baltimore and the Capital of the United States, Washington, D.C.

The Cruising Area

Our cruising waters begin on the South River, just a short boat ride to The Chesapeake Bay. Our location allows for an easy cruise to Annapolis, Baltimore, St. Michael's, Oxford and many other wonderful boating destinations. On your voyage down the South River you will see the Historic Londontown Manor House (the old state house for Maryland), Quiet Waters Park, the wildlife sanctuary (A great chance to see a Bald Eagle or a Great Blue Heron), and some of the most charming homes in the area. When you enter the Chesapeake Bay you will pass Thomas Point Lighthouse and immediately see the Bay Bridge. From there the treasures of the Chesapeake are all yours to enjoy and take in.

Over 195 miles long and up to 30 miles wide, the Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in North America. Nine major rivers feed this arm of the sea, diluting the salty tides with currents of fresh water. Everything for which Annapolis is justly famous--its former stature as colonial America's capital of commerce and culture and its current status as the sailing and seafood capital of the nations owed to the Bay. And the story of both its past and its present--from legendary naval battles to watermen dredging for oysters aboard skip jacks (as oystering is still done on the Chesapeake today) has been played out under sail.
